Rochester Recreation & Arena is pleased to announce the vibrant efforts of the Senior Quilting and Crafting Group, a close-knit community group that meets every Monday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
This group not only serves as a creative outlet for seniors engaging in various fabric arts, including needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch, and quilting, but also fosters socialization and friendship.
A distinctive feature of this crafting community is its commitment to giving back. Participants channel their creative energies into personal projects and charitable endeavors. From crafting lap-sized rag quilts, pillows, and rope tug toys, to crocheting blankets and hats, the group utilizes donated material remnants to ensure nothing goes to waste. Completed projects find their way to local organizations such as Waypoint, Vouchers for Veterans, Footprints Food Pantry, Hope on Haven Hill, Lydia’s House, and even the Rochester Police and Fire Departments.
Additionally, their generosity extends to community events, as demonstrated by their sponsorship of a Christmas tree at the 2023 Festival of Trees, adorned with meticulously crafted items.
Steve Scott, Senior Services Coordinator, expressed the inclusive nature of the group, stating, “If you enjoy quilting, sewing, macramé, crochet, or any other type of craft activity, this group is perfect for you. It’s a great group of seniors who would love to have you join them.”
For those interested in joining the Senior Quilting and Crafting Group or receiving their heartfelt creations, contact the Rochester Recreation Department at (603) 332-4120 or email Steve Scott at [email protected] or visit Rec.RochesterNH.gov for more details.
