Rochester Public Library Children’s Room hosts Intergenerational Story Time at Easterseals Adult Day Program

Oct 24, 2024

The Rochester Public Library’s Children’s Room recently worked with Easterseals Rochester to bring together older community members and some of the library’s youngest patrons. Children’s Librarian Christina Pauquette led a Story Time session that included movement activities, followed by snacks and time for participants to socialize.

Paquette reports that approximately 20 senior clients warmly welcomed a small group of children and parents, stating “We began with books, songs, and fingerplays, featuring classics like Little Red Hen and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We also included movement activities, like I’m a Little Teapot and the Hokey Pokey. To make the program even more lively and colorful, we used scarves, bells, and egg shakers.”

“As expected, the children were a little quiet and shy at first, but by the end of the hour, they were socializing and entertaining the group,” said Paquette. “It was clear from the smiles around the room that both the clients and staff enjoyed the children’s presence, while the music had everyone moving.”

“Programs like this help the library fulfill its mission of bringing the community together and enriching lives,” Pauquette added. “We look forward to offering another program at Easterseals during the winter months.”

This program was held at the Easterseals facility located at 13 Healthcare Way in Rochester. For more information about the Easterseals Adult Day Program, visit their website at Adult Day Rochester | Easterseals NH.
