The Rochester Opera House is pleased to announce its adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved classic “James and the Giant Peach,” running from May 15 to May 25.
Generously sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance, “James and the Giant Peach” tells the story of young James, who, after being sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, discovers a magic potion that produces a tremendous peach. What follows is a fantastical journey of epic proportions. James finds himself inside the giant peach, surrounded by human-sized insects with equally large personalities. As the peach rolls into the ocean, the group faces numerous challenges including hunger, sharks, and plenty of disagreements.
Through James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the motley crew learns to live and work together as a family. Their dangerous voyage culminates in an unexpected twist when they land atop the Empire State Building. This delightfully offbeat adaptation retains all the whimsy and adventure of Dahl’s original tale and condenses it into a captivating 90-minute performance.
