The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce “Rat Knight in Rochester”, an exhibition featuring a series of works by Brandon Cable in the Carnegie Gallery, at the Rochester Public Library.
Brandon Cable is a New England-based artist who has been drawing ever since he could pick up a marker. Art has always been his lifestyle and escape from reality. Growing up, Brandon received stacks of paper and loads of art supplies for every birthday and Christmas, which he eagerly put to use, striving to perfect his artistic style. Throughout grade school and high school, he carried a sketchbook with him, seizing every opportunity to work on his craft during classes.
Brandon is a versatile artist skilled in various forms of art, including illustration, comics, graphic design, and fine arts. His true passion lies in creating artwork in the comic style using pen and ink with digital coloring. He draws inspiration from his favorite movies, shows, and franchises, often featuring characters from these sources in his work.
A significant milestone in Brandon’s artistic career was self-publishing his first comic book, Rat Knight. This tongue-in-cheek parody with its own unique twist on the thriller and superhero genres showcases his love for the comic medium. The pages presented here are excerpts from Rat Knight, where Brandon made stylistic choices paying homage to vintage comic books, incorporating flat, saturated colors and intentionally aging the paper to make Rat Knight truly stand out.
Originally hailing from Waterford, CT, Brandon continues to create art as a freelance artist while also working for a graphic design company. He honed his skills at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College, where he studied and further developed his artistic abilities.
Over the years, Brandon has exhibited his work at notable venues such as Whalers and Lancers Exhibition at Hygienic Art in New London, CT, and the Annual BFA Exhibition at Roger Williams Gallery in Manchester, NH. These exhibitions provided opportunities for him to showcase his talent and connect with fellow artists and art enthusiasts.
Brandon’s artistic influences include renowned figures such as Neal Adams, Brian Bolland, Jim Lee, Jason Fabok, José Luis Garcia-Lopez, Todd MacFarlane, and James Raiz. Their distinct styles and contributions to the comic industry have left a lasting impact on his own artistic journey.
In reflecting on his body of work and the exhibition at hand, Brandon shares his personal quote: “This whole journey has been a little victory, and that’s okay; the big ones are coming.” With an unwavering determination to continue evolving as an artist, Brandon Cable eagerly awaits the opportunities and achievements that lie ahead.
The exhibition will be on view from October 9, 2023, until December 1, 2023, with a reception planned for November 4, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend. The Rochester Public Library is located at 65 South Main Street, Rochester, NH 03867. Visit www.brandoncableart.com and www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.
